What will You bring about in 2021 Part II

Yoga’s Got Your Back

I asked in Part I of this series about how you go about setting resolutions (read that post here). In this second post, I’m going to introduce you to the Yamas and Niyamas.

Yoga is about a lot more than Asana (poses). In fact, there’s an eight limbed path at the heart of Yoga, which is too much to go into in this post: all you need to do is learn a little about the  Yamas & Niyamas. Then you’ll pick just one Yama or Niyama — at the most one Yama and one Niyama to practice in 2021.

What are these Yamas and Niyamas?

The Yamas are five suggestions for how you interact with others. The Niyamas are five self care practices.  The Yamas and Niyamas can change  your life and help you bring your Yoga off your mat and into your day.

That blissful feeling after time in Savasana after a great Yoga class? Start studying, choosing, and practicing a Yama and/or Niyama, and eventually you might actually have more blissful moments throughout your whole day, not just on your Yoga mat.

Every year I like to pick one word to concentrate on. You can read about the word I chose, and why, in my blog post here. In 2021 I am also picking one Yama and one Niyama to practice.

Whole books are dedicated to the Yamas and Niyamas. I will just give you a brief description of each. In my next post we’ll look at the Yamas, or guidelines for how you interact with the world around you and its inhabitants in.
